Meet Shawn Mitchell

Shawn Mitchell

Shawn is the Director of Content at CharityVillage.com. He oversees all of the editorial content, Campus training, and online community development work on the site. Prior to joining CharityVillage, Shawn was the VP, Corporate and Public Affairs for Karyo Edelman, the Vancouver office of the global Edelman PR agency, where he led projects for clients in stakeholder management, public consultation and crisis management.

What brought Shawn to CharityVillage was his passion for the nonprofit sector in Canada. He has more than ten years management experience in the sector - as Director of Communications for the Huntington Society of Canada, and as VP, Communications and Human Resources for WWF-Canada. At WWF, it was his team that led the launch of the first Earth Hour in Canada and developed The Good Life, an online community of Canadians pledging lifestyle changes to reduce their ecological footprint.

Shawn is also a member of the board of directors for Mountain Equipment Co-op, Canada’s largest cooperative outdoor retailer. As part of this role at MEC he sits on both the Sustainability and Governance Committees and has the pleasure of working on behalf of a very loyal membership and dedicated staff.

To relax, Shawn likes to wear Gore-Tex … it makes him feel empowered to enjoy the outdoors regardless of the elements. This is particularly important for when he is walking his dog and baby girl. He also enjoys travel, literature, music and fine wine - especially in the company of his wife.

You can contact Shawn at shawn@charityvillage.com and/or follow him on Twitter at @paddle2c.
