Academicinfo.net, an online compendium of information related to online and distance education, particularly in business. The site includes a number of business resources, including online journals, links to research tools, and a book list.

allRefer is a an encyclopedia and reference resource containing a comprehensive database of articles and other reference materials. Students, teachers, and researchers can depend on it for information that is authoritative and up-to-date.

Ask a Librarian, from a consortium of libraries in the United Kingdom. Submit a question on any topic and a resource librarian will get back to you with an answer, links to web sites, and book and periodical references. It's designed primarily for UK residents, but the won't turn international questions away.

Ask Jeeves is a great little search service that allows you to ask direct questions like "Why is the sky blue?" or "Who was Canada's Prime Minister in 1887?" Jeeves then scours the web to find answers and sends them back in helpful lists.

Babel Fish Translation is a free automatic translator that enables you to translate short passages of text or entire web sites among 19 pairs of languages.

Bank of Canada - Unclaimed Balances allows you to search for money that's sitting in the bank in your name and hasn't been claimed. Search for your organization or your own name.

Bare Bones 101 is a basic tutorial on searching the web, designed to get you started in the right direction with a minimum of time and effort.

Canada 411 Telephone Number Lookup Service, the Internet version of Canada's telephone companies' residential white pages and business yellow pages. Finds the phone number for a person or business, almost anywhere from BC to Newfoundland.

CanadaInfo, 300 pages of information about Canada - its government, history, facts, people, security, geography, provinces, symbols, and more. Includes statistics, maps, photographs, and dozens of fact sheets.

Canadian Encyclopedia. A huge collection of information on all things Canadian, including maps, audio and visual clips, biographies, and more.

Canadian Geographical Names. Lost? Unsure of a placename's spelling? Confused about St. John and St. John's? Want to know how far Point A is from Point B? Need the longitude and latitude? Want to see it on a map? All of this and more, brought to you by Natural Resources Canada.

Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO). Provides a wide array of publications, both online and in print, to help people better understand a variety of legal issues and topics.

Copywriting 101 A 10-step copywriting tutorial designed to get you up and running with the basics of writing great copy so that you can create compelling stories that grab attention and connect with people.

CorpWatch. CorpWatch investigates and exposes corporate violations of human rights, environmental crimes, fraud, and corruption around the world. The site includes an interactive corporate research guide that will take you step by step through researching corporations on the Internet.

Count Me In Calendar. Comprehensive listing of UK awareness and fundraising campaigns, religious holidays, and UN special celebrations.

Country Insights. Created by Foreign Affairs Canada, this site provides free access to information on the countries and cultures of the world.

Creative Gallery on Sustainability Communications. A database of public service ads - in print, radio, billboards, and video form - that is searchable and browseable, with user ratings and descriptive text that includes context, philosophy, results, and production information.

Currency Converter. Need to know how many Algerian Dinars you can get for a buck these days? The Currency Converter will translate almost any currency for you instantly and exchange rates are updated constantly.

DocuTicker. Offers a hand-picked selection of resources, reports and publications from government agencies, NGOs, think tanks and other public interest organizations. Search by category and country.

ebase. Ebase is free database software designed especially for nonprofit organizations. Put together by the Technology Project of the Rockefeller Family Fund the database tracks donor, member, activist and volunteer information. It includes mail and e-mail merge capabilities as well as more sophisticated features, such as potential duplicate tracking, householding and more. Best of all, it's completely free!

Elements of Style. An online version of the classic grammar text by William Strunk Jr. Never wonder where to put that comma or apostrophe again.

Emailreplies.com. This site explains how to send effective e-mail replies. It discusses why e-mail etiquette is necessary, lists e-mail etiquette rules, and explains how to enforce these rules by creating an e-mail policy for your organization.

Flowork Social Network Audit. A free online social network audit tool that allows users to manage and create a social network map so they can visualize their network. In addition, goals can be created and linked to specific contacts.

Forum One. A searchable database of more than 180,000 Web-based Discussion Forums. Use it to see whether there's a forum for folks like you.

Freecycle Canada. The Freecycle Network is a grassroots movement of individual groups across the globe. It's a forum for people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Each local group is run by a local volunteer moderator and membership is free.

GDSourcing. A directory to sites with statistical information about Canada. Find links to everything from acid rain levels to youth violence figures.

GetPrepared.ca. Created by Public Safety Canada, this site offers practical advice on how to prepare your home or workplace for potential emergency situations such as earthquakes, storms or other disasters. Includes a downloadable emergency preparedness guide.

Leadership Communications for the 21st Century. This website is devoted to helping managers become leaders. It includes a collection of how-to articles on the art and practice of leadership, plus pointers for implementing leadership behaviours in your workplace.

LetterExpert. Whether you want to complain, send a thank-you, craft a fundraising letter, request a pay increase, or deliver some news, this site will help you. It includes advice, articles and all sorts of sample letters written by professional journalists and experts.

LibrarySpot.com. A free virtual library resource centre offering a huge variety of reference material, including dictionaries, encyclopedias, maps, historical documents, statistics, and much more.

Lifehack.org. The site focuses on work balance, life skills and self growth, offering tips and tricks that help get things done quickly by automating, increase productivity and organizing.

MapBlast. Never get lost on the way to a prospect meeting again. Just key in the name of the city or town and MapBlast will present you with a map of the location, and directions for how to get there too!

MediaINFO. Looking for the Minnedosa Tribune web site in Manitoba? Need to find CFOX-FM in Vancouver? Find a massive collection of media web sites (print, radio, television) from around the world and down the street at MediaINFO.

moneytools.ca Run by the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, this website provides tools and information to help visitors increase their financial knowledge.

NewsConnect A web-based service from the Toronto Public Library that provides links to more than 1,000 news sites world-wide, including publications in 70 languages.

NRC Time Services Does every computer in your office display a different time? This site provides the exact time, maps of the different time zones across Canada, and a handy chart to help you figure out the time in other provinces or territories.

Online Learning Marketplace A directory of web sites and resources related to online and distance education in Canada and abroad.

Reading Effectiveness Tool. Provided by Clear Language and Design (CLAD), a public education program of the Toronto East End Literacy Project, this tool will assess whether your draft manuscript is at the appropriate reading level for your intended audience.

Reference.com is a useful source that archives all Internet newsgroups and a huge number of mailing lists. Access old news and discussion with handy search features.

Remember me when I'm gone provides a generic memory book template in 30 languages for both individuals as well as charitable organizations to use free of charge. It is a nonprofit initiative that aims to inspire, motivate, and help parents who expect to die before their child(ren) have grown up, to make a memory book about their own life for each of their children.

Roget's Thesaurus. Just like the print version, but here you just key in your word(s).

skOOchie A free tool that helps organize get-togethers and manage sign-ups. Includes templates for nonprofit organizations to send e-mail invitations and track guest registrations. Topica. A searchable compendium of 70,000 online newsletters and mailing lists. Use it to see whether there's a list focused on your favourite topic.

Virtual Advisor Provides answers to about 80 of the most common questions Canadians have regarding finances, and about 60 relating to work.

UQ Events An event site that allows charities to post their event advertisements for free.

The Webmasters' Club Part of CharityVillage, the club offers links to sites that help with web site design, development, promotion and much more. Find free dial-up providers, free e-mail and homepage services, and virus and hoax checking programs.

Whatis.com. A vast online encyclopedia of technology terms. If you've ever wondered just what Java or ADSL is, this is the place to look it up.

wikiHow. A collaborative writing project to build the world's largest, highest quality how-to manual, covering almost every topic imaginable.

WorldWideWeb Acronym and Abbreviation Server. Acronyms are abbreviations constructed from the first letters of the words of a phrase (e.g. RCMP, CDMA, NSFRE). Search for an acronym and see its expansion; search for a word in the expansions and see the related acronyms; or submit an acronym for inclusion in the database.

WWWebster Dictionary. Provided by Merriam-Webster, it includes an online dictionary and thesaurus. Faster than thumbing through the on-shelf versions.
